What is my Intratec TEC-9 worth?
Collected today for a reason unrelated to how it shoots: the 1994 federal ban named it, production changed to comply, and the company closed in 2001. Supply of the earlier configuration stopped permanently, and the market has priced it that way since.
Made 1985–2001.
No page can price your gun, and one that offers to is guessing. What this does is show you which one you have — because that is where the money is.
How to tell which one you have
- Read the model name stamped on the frame: TEC-9, TEC-DC9 or AB-10.
- Check whether the barrel is threaded and whether the shroud is fitted — that is the visible difference between the earlier and later configurations.
- Look at the magazines that came with it and their capacity.
- See whether the original box and manual survived, which they usually did not.
The versions that change the number
| Version | What it means for value |
|---|---|
| TEC-9 1985–1990 | The original name and configuration. Earliest production is the scarcest. |
| TEC-DC9 1990–1994 | Renamed, same pistol, still the earlier configuration. The most commonly found of the collectible ones. |
| AB-10 1994–2001 | Post-ban production without the threaded barrel. Ordinary money next to the earlier guns. |
| TEC-22 Scorpion 1988–1990s | The rimfire version, made in smaller numbers and often overlooked entirely. |
What actually drives the price
- Which model name is on the frame, before anything else.
- Whether the barrel threading and shroud are present and original.
- The magazines included, and their capacity.
- Original box, manual and condition of the finish.
And the two that apply to every gun on this site: do not clean it, and keep the box and papers. Removing original finish is permanent, and on the right gun the packaging is a real part of the total.
"It is a cheap ugly gun, nobody wants it"
They were inexpensive when new and they are not finely made, and none of that sets the price now. Scarcity does: the company is gone and the earlier configuration cannot be made again. Families clearing a house routinely price these as junk when they are worth several times that.
Can I even sell one?
That depends on the configuration and on your state's law, and it is not a question to take from a page that wants to buy your guns. We are a licensed dealer, we will tell you plainly what we can take, and where a transfer has to go through somebody in your state. Ask before you move it anywhere.
