Buying in Bad Axe and Huron County
Huron County holds 12 licensed dealers across seven towns at the tip of the Thumb.
Surrounded by water on three sides and farmed hard on the fourth. Seven towns share twelve licenses, so there’s no hub, and collections were assembled from small shops over decades. A lot of what is here has never left the county, which is good for originality and means the identification work is more interesting than usual.
Roughly a quarter of Huron County's 12 licenses — 3 of them — are manufacturing licenses. Collections here tend to include at least one gun that somebody worked on rather than bought, and those are the ones worth slowing down over.
No pawnbroker holds a license anywhere in the county. Guns here move dealer to dealer or hand to hand, and estates are correspondingly more complete than in places with a pawn counter on every other corner.
What collections look like around here
The Flint, Saginaw and Bay area holds a lot of firearms and a lot of dealers — Genesee County alone has 74, including fourteen licensed pawnbrokers, which is among the highest counts in Michigan. That mix means guns here have often changed hands several times locally, and condition varies enormously from one house to the next.
Estates in Huron County
Deep hunting traditions in this part of the state mean gun cabinets are rarely small. Estates here regularly run to twenty or thirty firearms, most of them working guns with a few surprises buried in the middle.
We also cover Caseville, Pigeon, Port Hope, Kinde, Bay Port and Owendale — and the rest of Michigan besides. If you have something worth looking at, distance is our problem, not yours.
We’re right out at the tip.
Caseville, Port Hope, Kinde and Bay Port are all the same run for us. The Thumb is a loop, not a detour and we would rather do it in one go.

One thing worth knowing before anyone looks at it, wherever you are: don’t clean it. A polished or re-blued gun can be worth a fraction of an untouched one, and it can’t be undone.
