Buying in Port Huron and St. Clair County
St. Clair County holds 59 licensed dealers spread across 29 separate towns — one of the most scattered markets in the state.
Twenty-nine towns holding 59 licensed dealers makes St. Clair County unusual: there’s no single trading hub, and collections here were assembled from shops in half a dozen small places along the river and inland. Eighteen of those licenses are manufacturers, which is a high proportion and shows up in estates as custom and gunsmith work, not catalog guns.
Roughly a quarter of St. Clair County's 59 licenses — 18 of them — are manufacturing licenses. Collections here tend to include at least one gun that somebody worked on rather than bought, and those are the ones worth slowing down over.
They are spread thin, too: 59 licenses across 29 separate towns with no single hub. Collections were assembled from several small shops over decades, and half of those shops are gone.
What collections look like around here
The Flint, Saginaw and Bay area holds a lot of firearms and a lot of dealers — Genesee County alone has 74, including fourteen licensed pawnbrokers, which is among the highest counts in Michigan. That mix means guns here have often changed hands several times locally, and condition varies enormously from one house to the next.
Estates in St. Clair County
Deep hunting traditions in this part of the state mean gun cabinets are rarely small. Estates here regularly run to twenty or thirty firearms, most of them working guns with a few surprises buried in the middle.
We also cover St. Clair, Marysville, Fort Gratiot, Marine City, Algonac and Capac — and the rest of Michigan besides. If you have something worth looking at, distance is our problem, not yours.
We’re up the river instead of in Port Huron itself.
That’s most of the county. Marine City, Algonac, St. Clair and the townships inland are all the same trip, and a collection in a farmhouse near Capac is no harder to look at than one in town.

One thing worth knowing before anyone looks at it, wherever you are: don’t clean it. A polished or re-blued gun can be worth a fraction of an untouched one, and it can’t be undone.
