A lot of west Michigan estates come out of long-settled families where the same guns have been passed down twice already. That is usually good news for condition and bad news for paperwork — the story of where something came from has often been lost, and it is worth reconstructing, because provenance on an older gun can be a meaningful part of what it is worth.

The shop I bought these from closed years ago. Does that matter?
Not to the value. Kent County has lost a lot of independent dealers and it is normal for a Grand Rapids collection to have come from three or four shops that no longer exist. Missing receipts do not hurt an ordinary gun. On a collectible piece original paperwork adds value, so check the drawer before assuming there is none.
